Child Support Awareness Month

I am not sure if you know, but August is Child Support Awareness Month, I wanted to reach out with some information regarding child support agreements.

As a refresher, a child support agreement is a legal arrangement that specifies the financial obligations and responsibilities of non-custodial parents to provide financial support for their children. Though you might think of them as a one-time occurrence, agreements need reviewing to ensure they align with current circumstances.

With that in mind, here are three things to keep in mind if you have an agreement like this in place:

  1. Review and update agreements regularly. Significant life events such as job changes, income adjustments, or changes in custody arrangements may necessitate modifications to the agreement. Consulting with a family law attorney can help ensure that the child support agreement remains fair and, in the child’s, best interest.

  2. Consider legal options to help with enforcement. If you’re experiencing challenges in receiving child support payments, enforcement options are available. Legal remedies such as wage garnishment and property liens can be pursued to ensure compliance.

  3. Utilize co-parenting resources. Nurturing a healthy co-parenting relationship is essential for the well-being of children. There are numerous resources available to you that can assist in improving communication, resolving conflicts, and promoting a positive co-parenting environment.

Whether you have an agreement in place or know someone who does, I hope this information provides continued guidance and support to help you navigate this aspect of family law.
